Research Community & Pilot Programme

SENshine is currently inviting schools to join its 2025 Pilot Programme. This is zero cost and guarantees you extended free usage plus future discounts. See below.

Co-funded by Innovate UK, SENshine is building its services using hybrid and generative AI approaches. These require the finest data and expertise to fulfil potential and avoid bias.

Enter SENshine’s stakeholder research community. This includes nationally celebrated multi-disciplinary experts, schools, parents, local councils and researchers.

Community Power

SENshine’s services draw upon the power of its research community.

In turn, SENshine will benefit stakeholders across the whole special education ecosystem.

See below for how SENshine will benefit you.

SENshine prevents learners’ problems from being left to fester while waiting for a professional expert. Instead, it supports schools to continually adapt to learners’ changing needs.

Furthermore, SENshine allows families and teaching teams to share and communicate via its Family App. This brings pupil voice and familial input into the school’s provisioning processes.

SENshine empowers teachers and TAs to better deliver special education in partnership with SENCOs. SENshine does this in three key ways; by:

  1. Tracking and visualising SEN learners’ progress – both academically and non-academically.
  2. Facilitating the co-production of SEN services with experts, parents, and learners.
  3. Drafting classroom support plans that incorporate learners’ individual learning plans.

SENshine estimates to save the average SENCO >41 days/yr (freeing time to improve provision), by:

  1. Tracking and visualising learner progress.
  2. Providing ‘on-demand’ multi-disciplinary expertise.
  3. Drafting key SEN documentation.
  4. Collating all SEN info & comms in one place.
  5. Empowering teachers to ‘own’ their special education.

SENshine helps school leaders (e.g. Heads, Assistant Heads) to implement Whole School SEND approaches and optimise their SEN investments. SENshine also makes it easier to measure and evidence SEN success.

These capabilities help leaders to manage for success and triumph with OFSTED.

SENshine reduces schools’ dependence upon external specialists. This frees them to focus on the most interesting and highest impact work.

Secondly, professionals can interact with learner’s teaching teams on SENshine’s platform. This supports a more integrated service provision.

Thirdly, SENshine helps specialist professionals by helping schools better evidence their impact.

SENshine supports special and mainstream school partnerships, by facilitating information transfer and collaboration between the two.

Special schools can also use SENshine to reap efficiencies in their own operational processes.

LAs (e.g. service leads, commissioners) benefit when schools use SENshine in two ways:

  1. SENshine saves schools time and provides access to specialist expertise at low-cost, helping LAs meet their policy objectives.
  2. SENshine digitises schools’ SEN data, and when parties agree, can streamline LA processes e.g. EHCP assessments and reviews.

SENshine thrives on data. As the user base grows, SENshine will make anonymised data available for research. These data will help track both schools’ SEN performance and the effectiveness of strategies employed.

SENshine breaks the trade-off between cost and quality in special education. It also addresses the 3 priorities of the DfE’s 2023 UK SEND reforms:

  1. Fulfilling children’s potential: by empowering schools to improve SEN provision;
  2. Building parents’ trust: by involving families in the process of achieving the above (#1);
  3. Providing financial stability: by providing services cost-effectively, while reducing the need for costly expert consultants.
